At a news conference in Gelsenkirchen, Germany to announce their June 20 showdown, WBO/IBF heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko and challenger David Haye held nothing back. The two fighters traded words before a packed room of media members. Haye brought out the trash talk in Wladimir by wearing a t-shirt that showed a photo of himself with the severed heads of Wladimir and older brother Vitali Klitschko.
Haye declared war on the entire Klitschko family and promised to knock Wladimir out.
"I have declared war on the Klitschko family, first on Wladimir and then Vitali, that is the plan and on June 20 the war will begin," Haye said. "I am in my prime, my resume speaks for itself I am not coming here to pick up a pay-cheque like the rest of his opponents. I will be here to show The Hayemaker is the best in the world. Make sure you get your tickets - I am going to take boxing to a whole new stratosphere. It will be the biggest heavyweight fight of all time. It will be the beginning of a legend. I have seen many of Wladimir's fights and they bored me. Jab, jab, right. That is all he can do. He will live his worst nightmare."
Wladimir, uncharacteristically, traded words with Haye, telling the talkative Brit that he plans to punish him slowly and then knock him out in the twelfth and final round.
"I find the t-shirt in bad taste and cruel, but I will punish you," Klitschko said. "I will make the fight a long trial and will only knock you out in the 12th round. I understand he is a young and insolent man, I would give him some advice to control his emotions and save them for the ring. I will give him a lesson."
