In an overseas telephone interview with AHN , IBF heavyweight champ Wladimir Klitschko disputed reports of suffering a serious hand injury during last Saturday's six round stoppage of Lamon Brewster in Germany.
Klitschko's assistant trainer, Jamen Ali Bashir, allegedly told that Associated Press that his fighter had sustained a broken middle finger during the bout.
"What are they saying about my hand over there?" Klitschko said in a telephone interview from Germany. "It's not broken. It's not a big issue. There is some damage but it's not that serious. Sometimes when you fight your hand swells up. In a couple of weeks I'll be fine. It's my health and people like to talk about it a lot."
When the subject of Evander Holyfield came up, Klitschko said that he would consider facing the former four-time heavyweight champion, but would rather take on the winner of the October unification between WBA champ Rusland Chagaev and WBO titleholder Sultan Ibragimov. Recent reports still have Hasim Rahman as the frontrunner to fight Klitschko next, but Holyfield, who holds a win over Rahman, would make a lot more financial sense and could make for a more entertaining fight.
