In order to sign Floyd Mayweather Jr., hall of fame promoter Don King is open to a working relationship with Golden Boy Promotions, and the fighter's adviser Al Haymon. Over the last few weeks, King has been wooing Mayweather to sign a promotional agreement. The veteran promoter believes he can generate the most money for Mayweather, and King doesn't see any roadblocks to prevent a deal with Top Rank for a Manny Pacquiao mega-fight.
Mayweather has been spending a lot of time with King, which the promoter claims is the direct result of the fighter's unhappiness with the way he's been treated by Golden Boy and Haymon. King has already reached out to Haymon, but the powerful adviser is avoiding the promoter's advances.
"I don't know about replacing Golden Boy Promotions. 'Replacing' would be the wrong word. But I believe that I could work in addition to," said King. "You got a nice banker in [Golden Boy CEO,] Richard Schaefer, who has done a nice job in his capacity and working with the fighters that he has had."
"And [president] Oscar De La Hoya, you can't knock that. I can work with anybody, it don't matter who they are, where they come from, what color their skin is, I can work with anybody. We don't have to like each other, it's about working together to accomplish a goal."
