Angel Garcia, the father and trainer of WBC Junior Welterweight champion Danny Garcia, grabbed boxing headlines as he once again began a war of words when he attacked Amir Khan. He made comments regarding Khan’s ethnicity and religion while also promising that Danny will punish him in the ring when he spoke to Bill Emes of BoxingScene.com.

BoxingScene.com caught up with Amir Khan as he prepared for his media open workout at the Wild Card Gym and was asked what his reaction was to Angel Garcia’s vulgar comments.
“I don’t really hear about it as much. I don’t really read about it but it’s what people tell me. People tell me about it and stuff but it’s not going to get to me,” responded Khan.

“It doesn’t really get to me. I let my fists do the talking in the ring and with whatever I’ve heard, I’m going to let Danny Garcia’s father sit in a corner and sweat buckets when I’m going to beat [and hurt] his son. I think he’s putting pressure on his son and he’s making me want to knock his son out”.

While Khan won’t engage in a war of words with Angel Garcia, he does plan to make his son pay for his comments when they get in the ring. Strangely it’s not Danny Garcia who’s been doing the talking as he’s often said it’s his dad who’s the mouthpiece while he simply trains and takes care of business in the ring.

We’ve seen trash talk get ugly and personal before only to see the fighters shake hands and embrace after the fight knowing it was all business and a part of the sport. Khan assures throughout all this, he’s still respectful and would have no problem shaking hands with Angel Garcia after the fight should he approach him.

“I’m respectful; I’ll shake hands with anyone. All my opponents I have shook hands with. That’s the thing about me. I will shake his hand, I don’t mind but like I said - when I’m in the ring I will hurt his son,” promised Khan.

The fight is less than two weeks away and then the talk will cease and the fighting will begin.
