Amidst the uncertainty over TV rights for his upcoming fight against Paul McCloskey, WBA light-welterweight titlist Amir Khan kept his composure to ensure that he was fully prepared for whatever his challenger has to offer. Khan revealed during a conference call earlier today that he was aware of the speculation over his homecoming fight yet had left matter in the hands of his team as he bids to prevent 'Dudey' from causing an upset at the MEN Arena, Manchester on Saturday night.
"I didn't think this fight would be off," confirmed Khan. "I have been training hard. I've always been in the limelight and I knew we were going to get to the bottom of it."
Primetime TV announced the Khan deal earlier today; the subscription channel, which can be found on Sky channel 480, will charge £14.95 for the event and have confirmed that they will feed it through to American cable channel HBO.
“We are delighted to have agreed to a deal with Primetime. Amir is a pay-per-view fighter and has proved over the last 12 months the level at which he is now by beating some of the very best in his division. Primetime has shown some great fights in the past, including those of Bernard Hopkins, Vitali Klitschko, Evander Holyfield, Carl Froch and Jermain Taylor. We are looking forward to working with them and putting on a great show for all fight fans this weekend," enthused Asif Vali, Khan's business manager, when revealing the details of the deal earlier today.
It marks the end of an eventful weekend for Khan. Boxingscene received word on Saturday night that there was a dispute between Sky and Team Khan over the TV rights, we broke the story early the next day when announcing the Primetime link up. Amir, however, seems to have done the right thing, leaving the negotiations to the people around him and keeping his mind on the task at hand.
McCloskey has previously stated that Khan's camp has been chaotic going into this fight. The events of the weekend will have steadied the Irishman's resolve yet they may also have put an extra bit of pep into Amir's step. In fact, the Bolton-born boxer is always at his most dangerous when he has a point to prove, and will be aching to let the public know that when it comes to fighting he is still at the top of his game.
