A few days ago, Floyd Mayweather Jr. asked his social network fans to vote on whether his next fight should be against Amir Khan or Marcos Maidana.
Mayweather wrote: "I'm going to let the fans vote. Tell me who I should fight next. Khan or Maidana?"
Khan is adamant that he signed a contract in December that puts him in line for a possible pay-per-view fight with Mayweather on May 3rd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, but the former Olympic silver medalist is still waiting to find out if he will face the unbeaten WBC welterweight champion.
Although a May showdown in Las Vegas was mooted for the British fighter, Mayweather, 36, also has the option of taking on Maidana, who lost on points to Khan in 2011.
Khan, 27, has been holding out for a lucrative clash with Mayweather since suffering a scare in his dramatic points victory over Julio Diaz in Sheffield last April.
But Maidana's career has skyrocketed after upsetting Adrien Broner in impressive fashion last December, while Khan's career has not fully recovered since he suffered back to back defeats to Lamont Peterson and Danny Garcia.
As the votes continue to roll in, the fans are screaming their opinions loud - and Maidana has grabbed a huge lead in the poll - which promoted Khan to go on Twitter to express his frustration over his former foe potentially sliding in to snatch away the Mayweather payday.
"Mayweather says he needs a easy fight and fans want to see a knockout so maybe that's the reason he doesn't want to fight me and wants Maidana?"
Maidana has never been stopped as a pro or amateur.
