Amir Khan has laughed off claims that he's scared of Kell Brook - and still wants to fight Floyd Mayweather.

The English welterweights have been on an apparent collision course since Brook won the IBF championship last August but Khan insists his reluctance to fight does not stem from fear.

Khan outpointed Chris Algieri in New York last week, the night before Brook halted Frankie Gavin in his second title defense in London, yet a bout between the duo is no closer to being finalized.

“I think everyone realizes that Amir Khan is never scared about fighting anyone,” he told Sky Sports News HQ.

“I’ve fought everyone that’s been put in front of me – and I will fight anyone who is put in front of me.

“At the moment I have a different route. I’m going to America and selling out arenas, beating their big names, so I’m not scared.

“If the fight between Kell and I happens, then my team will put it together, but at the moment I have no interest in it.”

Khan’s focus remains a September showdown with Floyd Mayweather in Las Vegas for the all-time great’s final bout.

His religious beliefs often prevent competing at that time of year but Khan insists it won’t be a problem.

“Mayweather is the biggest fight out there for me,” he said. “I’d love to have that fight against the pound-for-pound and welterweight champion. That’s what I’m hoping for.

“We have the same advisor in Al Haymon so he could get the fight made. I’m in touching distance of it. I could fight in September because Ramadan is early this year.

"I don't think I have ever been closer to getting the fight with Floyd Mayweather than I am at this moment.

"The indications are that I have strengthened my case with my win over Algieri and I believe there is every chance the fight could be confirmed within the next two weeks.

“There’s huge names in the welterweight division – you’ve got Miguel Cotto, Manny Pacquiao, Timothy Bradley, Juan Manuel Marquez. The future holds big names for me.”
