Former champion Amir Khan (26-2, 18KOs) was not impressed with Kell Brook's gutsy weekend win over Carson Jones in Sheffield. Brook, who got off to a fast start in the first half of the fight, faded down the stretch and took some punishment, including a badly broken nose. He won a close majority decision on the cards.
Khan believes Brook (28-0, 18KOs) is at least two years away from reaching the elite level and still has a lot to learn.
"Kell Brook is not on the same level as us. The world class level is different. He lacks the world class experience because he has not been in there with anyone else," Khan told BoxingScene.com.
"I think his last fight showed it against a guy that I know if I had fought him I would have knocked him out. I'm not taking anything away from him. He trained hard and boxed well. But Kell Brook needs another two years to get to our level."
Regardless of their fighting level, Khan has no interest in facing Brook in the near future. The British superstar has set his sights on the biggest names out there, like Timothy Bradley and Floyd Mayweather Jr.
"[Brook] needs me. I don't need him. I've got bigger fights in America that I'm looking at. I know that I could get fights with Bradley, you've got this guy Garcia. All of my fights are for world titles. He's fighting guys who are not even rated in the top ten, most of them," Khan said.
This Saturday night at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Khan will face undefeated Danny Garcia with the WBC/WBA junior welterweight titles at stake.
