As previously reported, Amir Khan says he could fight Floyd Mayweather in September if the two can agree terms.
The Briton is the leading contender to next face undefeated Mayweather, who outpointed Manny Pacquiao in Las Vegas at the weekend.
He has not fought at that time of year, though, since his brutal defeat to Breidis Prescott in 2008 due to his commitment to the Muslim festival of Ramadan. But Khan could complete a training camp in time to face Mayweather, with Ramadan finishing early this year on July 17.
"I'm not ruling out fighting in September because it's possible that it could happen," Khan, who fights Chris Algieri in New York on May 29, told reporters. "Mayweather only fights in mid-September and Ramadan will be a little earlier this year, which helps. It gives me enough time to get the training done. So it can happen in September."
Mayweather has admitted he could retire once he completes his six-fight deal with Showtime, with his final outing due to take place in Vegas in four months' time.
The American's father, Floyd Mayweather Sr., even said his son should fight Khan because it would give him an easy victory before hanging up his gloves.
"Maybe they want me to not focus on my next fight with Chris," Khan added. "I'm going to go into it, be smart and not let anything come in front of me or distract me in any way.
"I'm not going to answer any question from Floyd's team, from anyone saying the fight can happen. At the moment it's not."
Khan added: "Floyd Mayweather is the best fighter in the world and you have to put on great performances to get that fight against him. You have to shine. It's about working hard, training hard and putting in a good performance in the ring. To have those, I can't take it easy, I have to be very focused. For the last couple of years I thought it was going to happen [the fight against Mayweather]. But my adviser Al Haymon and my trainer and everyone has told me, 'you have a fight in front of you'.
"Chris Algieri is no joke. I can't go into this fight thinking it will be easy. I can't take this fight lightly, and then lose the fight and all my dreams will be shattered to fight the big names of boxing."
