According to IBF welterweight champion Kermit Cintron, Contender star Alfonso Gomez has done nothing to deserve a fight with WBA champion Miguel Cotto. Cintron feels that he should be the fighter who takes on Cotto. Cotto is scheduled to fight Gomez on April 12 at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. Cintron is targeting a ring return for late April or early May.

"I am looking to get a big fight and if they give me the fight with Cotto - I'll take it," Cintron said to El Nuevo Dia . "Gomez does not deserve that fight."

Cintron was going to unify the titles with WBO champion Paul Williams on February 2. He was forced to withdraw after suffering a hand injury during last November's title defense against Jesse Feliciano. The Williams camp is convinced that Cintron exaggerated the injury to avoid the fight. Cintron denies their claims.

I was not going into a big fight with an injured hand," Cintron said.

Williams will now defend his title against Carlos Quintana on February 9. Cintron gives Quintana a decent shot to win if he executes the proper strategy,

"If Quintana boxes the same way that he boxed against Joel Julio - he can win," Cintron said. "I consider Quintana a very good boxer."
