IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (35-0, 24KOs) wants a big fight for the summer.
One opponent that he would like to get his hands on is newly crowned WBC champion Danny Garcia (32-0, 18KOs).
Brook is currently training for his mandatory defense against Kevin Bizier, which is scheduled for March 26 in Sheffield. Garcia was due to make a mandatory defense against Amir Khan, who instead accepted a fight with Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez on May 7th.
Brook was hoping for a blockbuster fight with Khan. With Khan out of the way, Brook is looking for the biggest opportunity possible. The options are a bit thin at 147 with most of the top names already being involved in upcoming fights. Even if he needs to pack up his suitcase and travel, Brook is ready to do so.
"After Bizier I expect something concrete quite quickly, ideally I’d like to know who it is or that we are close to making an offer, when I am sat on the apron immediately after Bizier," Brook told the Sheffield Star.
“It has been a long road but I am excited to get rid of the mandatory and things should open up for me. We will start pressing and pushing until we get the people, we want, like Garcia, (Timothy) Bradley or (Manny) Pacquiao. I would certainly be willing to travel to the US for Garcia, that’s a great fight.
“I would have been excited to fight the winner of Keith Thurman v Shawn Porter - I was intrigued to see how that went and it was disappointing to hear it was postponed (Thurman was in a car crash, last month), it does reduce my options for the time being. I have had some bad luck but if I get no injuries and there are no sticking points I know we can get those big fights.”
