Without a doubt, frustration was all over Juan Palacios' face last Friday when he failed to make weight for his first defense of the interim-minimumweight title of the World Boxing Association (WBA). Such frustrating period, Palacios (29-3, 22KOs) announced his retirement from boxing. However, Palacios reconsidered after Saturday's resounding knockout victory over Mexico's Armando Torres in Cancun.
Palacios plans to move up to junior flyweight (108 pounds), but he won target WBA champion Roman "Chococatito" Gonzalez, who fights under the same promotional company. He will go for a title under another organization.
"Juan is going to keep fighting. We will seek a new opportunity at 108 pounds, where he can also win a title," said Arnulfo Obando, head coach of the promoter of Sport SA (Prodesa). "Since Juan has spent 12-13 years at minimumweight, it is best to skip the division. At 30 years of age, his body is heavier and it is best to jump to another division.
