Juan Manuel Marquez (53-6, 39KOs) is entering the strongest stage of his training camp, as coach Nacho Beristain is putting together the perfect strategy to overcome Sergey Fedchenko (30-1, 13KOs) of Ukraine on April 14th at the new Arena Mexico in Mexico City. They clash for the WBO's interim-junior welterweight title.
"Fedchenko is motivated to win. He will be a difficult opponent because of the European style of fighting," Marquez said.
Nacho has obtained videos of Fedchenko's fights and put together the necessary tactics to win. Marquez has been punishing his sparring partners, which includes Alejandro Barrera. In the morning, Marquez starts the day with a long run onthe track. He says "speed" will play a big role in the fight's outcome.
"For this meeting, what I need is speed, so I'm running track," Marquez said. "I have no problem with the weight. I hope to give the fans in the capital a great contest."
