Former two-division world champion Juan Manuel "Juanma" Lopez (34-5, 31KOs), only 31-years-old, has decided to retire from boxing. Juanma has taken some severe punishment in the last few years, suffering a bad fourth round knockout loss to Mikey Garcia last year and then taking a beating for three rounds in July from Francisco Vargas and then last Thursday's vicious two round knockout at the hands of Jesus Cuellar.
"I went to hospital, everything went well and I finally reached Puerto Rico on Friday. There I met with my children. On Sunday I was talking to 'Juanmita' (the younger of the two) and told him jokingly that I would prepare to fight within six months and he, who is my biggest fan, he said 'I don't want my dad to fight anymore.' That got me, coming from my son who is super boxing fan. That was too big for me and it created a great weight on me. If I had any doubts [about what to do], my son took away those doubts," Juanma said to Carlos Narvaez.
