Anthony Joshua believes the next heavyweight mega-fight is a showdown between him and Tyson Fury (25-0, 18 KOs).
On Saturday night, Joshua scored a stunning eleventh round knockout of former division ruler Wladimir Klitschko. In becoming the first pugilist to stop Klitschko since Lamon Brewster in 2004, Joshua added the WBA, IBO belts to his IBF title.
In doing so, Joshua, 27, retained his unbeaten record in the most extreme of circumstances having been knocked to the canvas for the first time in his professional career. But he somehow found the strength to put 41-year-old Klitschko down in the 11th round in front of a euphoric post-World War II British record boxing crowd of 90,000 at Wembley.
After the fight, Joshua (19-0, 19KOs) called for a fight with Fury.
Fury handed Klitschko his first defeat in over ten years back in November 2015. He traveled to Germany and outboxed Klitschko over twelve rounds to secure a shocking upset.
Since that win, Fury has done very little. He struggled with mental issues, substance abuse and vacated all of his titles. But now he is back in training and plans to return to the ring in July.
Provided Fury can get his act together, Joshua believes that bout would draw another 90,000 fans to Wembley or sell-out any other venue in the country. Fury is viewed as the unbeaten champion, as he defeated Klitschko 18 months earlier and traveled to a hostile country to get the job done.
"That's why I mentioned [Fury]. It's not as if I'm drawing attention to someone random. I've heard and seen people talking and it seems like it's heading in that direction," Joshua said.
"I just like to entertain and if that's a fight that will bring entertainment to the sport again, I would love to be involved in another dust-up but this time it would be two Brits coming together."
