Former welterweight champion Joshua Clottey has always complained of being an overlooked fighter. Nobody gave him a chance, until now. Next Saturday night he gets his big chance to become a major player in the sport when he meets WBO champ Miguel Cotto at New York's Madison Square Garden. Clottey has a lot of respect for Cotto but plans to batter the Puerto Rican champion.
"I'm fighting for myself, for my family and for my country. I will do everything that I can to get the win my reach to win," Clottey told Primera Hora. "I know what I can do in the ring and I am going to concentrate on the things that I do well. I do not know what Cotto will bring to the ring that night, but I feel a great amount respect toward him. Cotto is tremendous boxer, he is intelligent. It will not be an easy fight for either of us and if I win, then the people will have to give me the respect that I deserve."
Clottey plans to go after Cotto if needed, and would love to make it a war by trading punches. He, like everyone else, would like to get a crack at Manny Pacquiao by getting a win over Cotto.
"Cotto is an intelligent boxer, but if I have to pursue him - I will go after him. In the same way, if he decides to make it a fight, then it's going to play in my favor. When I connect with my punches to the body and my combinations, they will have to raise my arm in victory. I consider myself invincible and if Cotto beats me, I will congratulate him, but otherwise, they will have to mention my name as a possible opponent for Pacquiao," Clottey said.
