In a recent interview with UK publication The Sun , WBO super middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe said that WBA/WBC champ Mikkel Kessler is nothing special. He views Kessler as nothing more than a carbon copy of Jeff Lacy, who Calzaghe dominated in 2006. If the two fighters come together to unify the division, Calzaghe promised to beat Kessler in the same fashion as Lacy.
“Kessler is a carbon copy of Lacy. When I got injured and pulled out of the first date against Lacy people called me chicken. Then I destroyed him only for people to say he was never any good anyway. If I have to fight Kessler to unify the division I will. Just because he beat some average Mexican called Librado Andrade doesn’t make him a great fighter,” Calzaghe said.
