Welterweight contender Jesus Soto Karass appeared on the most recent edition of BoxingScene Radio to talk about his upcoming fight against former champion Andre Berto. Soto Karass' career appeared to be close to over when he was stopped by Marcos Maidana last September. The Sinaloa, Mexico native turned his career around by outboxing the heavily favored Selcuk Aydin in January.
While Soto doesn't have the prettiest record, he feels that he continues to get tv dates because of his style.
"My record is what it is but you have to also look at the record and see who I lost to and how. I think I get back on TV because of my quality. I always put on great, entertaining shows," Soto Karass explained.
The 30-year-old veteran of many ring wars promises that July 27th will be another brawl that will captivate the fans. He said he is extremely motivated to move his career closer to a title shot.
"It is going to a war. I know Berto has two losses. I know he's had the opportunity to fight for a title. I haven't had that yet and I want it. You know what I bring. I am going to come forward and be aggressive. I think the fans will be the real winners," said Soto Karass.
The two fighters exchanged words on June 8th at the Stub Hub Center in Carson, CA during the Marcos Maidana versus Josesito Lopez fight. Soto admitted that the exchange was a heated but said that the talking is over and that next Saturday he will back up his words.
"When I get in the ring I have to do my work. I said (voy a partirle su madre)
I'm going to f*** him up and that's what I have to do, f*** him up. If he wants to shake hands afterwards and make it right that's cool but right now I have to concentrate on going in and f***ing him up," Soto Karass bluntly stated.
When we mentioned that Golden Boy President Oscar De La Hoya is offering a bonus for the best knockout of the night, Soto Karass said that while getting a knockout is nice, winning the fight is the most important thing.
"A bonus is never a bad thing but right now my only focus is on f***ing him up. F****ng him up is the most important thing right now. If I f*** him up and they give me the bonus then even better but f****ng him up is the most important thing," Soto Karass told BoxingScene Radio.
