Plans for a clash between former light heavyweight champs Jean Pascal and Tavoris Cloud are once again back on the table. Both camps are attempting to finalize terms by mid-July for a bout tentatively scheduled for September 27, according to TVA Sports in Canada.

The bout was once targeted for August 2012, back when Cloud was still an unbeaten light heavyweight titlist. A hand injury suffered by Pascal resulted in the card - which was to air on Showtime - being scrapped and never rescheduled due to several conflicting dates.

Cloud (24-2, 19KOs) has since fallen on hard times. The sculpted Floridian landed on the wrong side of history last March, dropping a 12-round decision to Bernard Hopkins, who - with the win - became the oldest fighter in boxing history (48 years old at the time) to win a major title.

The setback was followed by the first stoppage loss of his career, when he was forced to quit on his stool after seven one-sided rounds at the lethal hands of lineal light heavyweight king Adonis Stevenson.

Pascal (29-2, 17KOs) has seen his career move in the opposite direction—upwards—since that time. Such a bout would have come more than a year after his own infamous moment with Hopkins, conceding the lineal light heavyweight champion to the then-45 year old in their May '11 rematch. Pascal went idle afterwards, showing up at ringside for various light heavyweight fights, but never quite landing a role in one.

The 31-year old has since won three straight fights, including a 12-round win over Lucian Bute this past January in Montreal, where the majority of his career has taken place.
