Former WBC light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal is eager to get back in the ring, but his promoter is hoping the fight takes a decent amount of time off to recharge his batteries.
Late last month, Pascal was battered over seven rounds in his rematch with IBF/WBO/WBA light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada.
Prior to that, Pascal went to war for ten rounds with Yunieski Gonzalez last July at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. And before that, last March, he was stopped in eight rounds by Kovalev in a very physical fight.
Pierre Duc, the Vice President of Canadian promotional firm InterBox, is hoping the 33-year-old boxer takes a long break before returning to the ring.
He says Pascal has had four tough training camps within a 14 month period and needs to allow his body to physically recover. Pascal could very well have been physically burned out as he entered the ring for the Kovalev rematch. He was a far different fight in the second bout and also seemed to be off his game against Gonzalez six months earlier.
"Jean has given a lot," Duc told La Presse. "He needs to take a break, and not just a three-week break. He must take a real break to recharge the batteries. It is important not to make mistakes, not only for the future but also for his health. But knowing him, he is anxious to return as soon as possible."
