James Hawley has been released by his management company after making homophobic and transphobic comments in a video on social media.
The 21-year-old middleweight has a ring record of 6-0 with all of his fights going the distance and was last in action back in March at the Brentwood Centre in Essex when he outpointed Josh Adewale to inflict his first defeat.
Hawley got himself in hot water after posting a video on TikTok –– on his account which has since been deleted –– and has since apologised for his actions, saying that he “understands” and “empathises” with the decision that has been made.
"The boxing community is about respect and unity and MTK Global prides itself on its community focus and inclusive ethos," a company statement said.
MTK –– which represents fighters such as WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, WBO super-middleweight king Billy Joe Saunders and former two-weight world ruler Carl Frampton –– recently confirmed its behind-closed-doors schedule for between now and September.
"It has always been our mission to make boxing accessible to all,” the statement continued, “embracing individuality and being a safe space where community can express themselves and support one another.
"MTK Global does not in any way condone or support the views that were shared in any way, nor will these comments ever be considered as acceptable from any of our fighters hence the decision that was made by management.”
