Sauerland Event has once again won the purse bid for the mandatory fight between WBA 'regular' super welterweight champion Jack Culcay (22-1, 11 KOs) and #1 ranked Demetrius Andrade (23-0, 16 KOs).
Sauerland advised the World Boxing Association that they plan to stage the fight on March 11 in Berlin or the 17 of the same month in Hamburg, both German cities that will give the champion the home court advantage.
The fight went to a purse bid the first time back in August and was also won by Sauerland. But after a fight date was scheduled on a date in October, the two sides were unable to reach an agreement - which led to the bout falling apart and the WBA setting down another purse bid.
Whether or not the fight happens remains to be seen. Last weekend Andrade was calling for a fight with IBF champion Jermall Charlo, who retained his belt on Saturday with a fifth round knockout of mandatory challenger Julian Williams. Andrade was ringside in Los Angeles and confronted Charlo at the post-fight press conference.
Andrade finally returned to the ring back in June after a layoff since last October. He dominated and stopped tough contender Willie Nelson in the twelfth round in his Showtime televised debut from the Turning Stone Resort and Casino in Verona, New York. Nelson was down four times in the fight before it was waved off.
Culcay retained his title last December with a dominant twelve round decision win over Dennis Hogan. He came back to action in April, and stopped once-beaten Jean Carlos Prada in nine round of action. Culcay's sole defeat came at the hands of Guido Pitto by way of split decision in 2013. Cuclay avenged that loss in the same year with a twelve round unanimous decision.
