Jack Catterall and Ohara Davies will fight each other at some point during the new season.
The super-lightweight duo will meet in a hotly-anticipated dust-up, with Catterall likely to put his WBO Inter-Continental title on the line.
Boxing Scene was informed that the fight would take place on September 15 at the O2 Arena in London, as part of a show to be promoted by Frank Warren. But according to Warren’s latest column, “all that is left to determine is where we are going to put it on.”
Warren signed Davies, the former WBC Silver super-lightweight champion and current WBC International champion, shortly after his split from Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing earlier this year.
Catterall, for what it’s worth, has been a long-time member of Warren’s outfit and, trained by Jamie Moore, was most recently in action back in June when he outpointed Tyrone McKenna at the SSE Arena in Belfast, exclusively live on BT Sport.
Davies knocked out Paul Kamanga in his last outing on June 23, which was also exclusively live on BT Sport, at the O2 Arena.
Catterall vs. Davies would, in so many ways, tell us everything we need to know about the both of them and it’s a delight to see both fighters agreeing to the fight rather than heading in different directions in the hope that a meeting further down the line could be more financially fruitful.
While an official announcement has yet to be made regarding where and when the fight will take place, Boxing Scene is under the impression that English heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois and WBO European and WBO Inter-Continental light-heavyweight champion Anthony Yarde will both return on the same card.
Further details will be revealed in due course.
