Before a hot crowd at the Ruben Rodriguez Coliseum in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, WBO light flyweight champion Ivan Calderon (32-0, 6KOs) won a unanimous seven-round technical-decision over Hugo Cazares (26-5, 19KOs) of Mexico. The scores were 67-66, 68-65 and 68-65 for Calderon.

It was an explosive first-round with Cazares coming out with big bombs and chasing Calderon around the ring. Calderon was boxing and on his toes to make Cazares miss a lot of those bombs. Calderon began timing Cazares with his jab in round two to set up other punches.

In round three he continued with the right jab and the crowd would light up with every punch he landed on Cazares, and went wild when Cazares almost went down he was off-balance and got caught. In round four, Cazares was once again being outboxed and once again almost when down when caught off-balance.

The two would exchange head shots in the fifth with Calderon using his slick boxing an quicker hands to make Cazares work hard to land the few shot he could.

During an exchange in the seventh round, the two fighters came in at the same time and clashed heads very hard - opening a deep cut on the forehead of Calderon. The blood was flowing bad. The ref stopped the action, and took Calderon to the ringside doctor. The fight was stopped by the ref and doctor moments later. Because the fight went past the fourth round, the fight went to the cards.

The two already waged war a year ago, with Calderon coming off the floor to pull out a twelve round split-decision in a close fight.
