The two rivals came face to face at the Rubén Rodriguez in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, trading words to promote their rematch on August 30 in Puerto Rico. WBO light flyweight champion Ivan Calderon (31-0, 6KOs) of Puerto Rico and Mexican-rival Hugo Cazares (26-4, 19KOs) prepare for another battle. The fight is a rematch of their war last August, where Calderon came off the deck in the eight-round to pull out a close split-decision.
Cazares finally gets his chance to avenge the only blemish on his record since 1999. He thinks he won the first fight and has nothing good to say about Calderon.
"Calderon has to show me that he deserves that title. Simply took it on a loan, but I've to claim what belongs me," affirmed Cazares told El Nuevo Dia. "Caledron thinks that with two fights he can be been accustomed to another weight division, but he fought secon-tier opponents like Juan Esquer amd Nelson Dieppa."
"I am the best in this division and if he is confident that he is more comfortable now at 108-pounds, show it me. I need nothing more than a round to trade punches to show tha he's not. I believe that by throwing a lot of punches, we can obtain a knockout."
Calderon knows that he needs to repeat his past performance with another tough win. He already plans to move up to 112-pounds to hunt for more titles.
"I don't have to show him anything. I have to show myself that I can continue being the champion and continue my dream of becoming a champion at 108-pounds and to look for other titles at 112-pounds," Calderon said. "I showed him in the first fight that I was able to stand up against him and now I have to do my part to continue as the champion. Some people think I won the title by luck, so I'm very motivated to show that I can do it again."
