It was reported in the Los Angeles Times that Oscar De La Hoya suffered a small tear to his rotator cuff and tore a muscle in his left forearm during the course of his knockout win over Ricardo Mayorga last Saturday night.

The injuires may prevent De La Hoya from being ready to go forward with his planned return to the ring on September 16. De La Hoya has ruled out surgery and will let the injuires heal on their own with the help of medication. Should the injuires not heal in time for De La Hoya to begin training for his target date in September, the planned bout will likely get postponed to the first available HBO pay-per-view date.
