Don Haskins Convention Center, El Paso, Texas - In a WBC junior welterweight eliminator, Amir Imam (18-0, 15KOs) crushed Fernando Angulo (29-10, 16KOs) in four rounds.
Imam staying busy, with now his third fight in the books for 2015. He stopped Fidel Maldonado Jr. in five rounds in January atthe MGM Grand in Las Vegas, and then came back in April to win a ten round unanimous decision over Walter Castillo at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.
Imam will become the mandatory challenger to the winner of Lucas Matthysse vs. Viktor Postol, who battle for the vacant WBC junior welterweight crown in the fall.
Angulo was throwing wild, looping shots. Imam was easily avoiding those punches and using a nice, long jab to control the action. In the fourth, Imam landed a two punch combination that sent Angulo crashing to the mat face first - down and out. No count necessary as the referee waved things off very quickly.
