The first time around it was the champion who held the home advantage, but now that scenario has changed as the two will collide on September 23rd at the Manchester Arena.
The 22-year-old hotshot, cousin of the former undisputed heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, has a perfect record of 20 wins and 10 knockouts with 8 coming inside the first three rounds.
Aukland’s Parker created history when he became New Zealand’s first ever world heavyweight champion by defeating Andy Ruiz Jr. on points to win the Vacant WBO title in a thrilling night in December last year and become a national hero. The belt was vacated by Tyson Fury last year, after the boxer was unable to fight due to his mental health struggles.
Parker currently holds an undefeated 23-fight record with 18 knockouts, 12 of those were inside three rounds.
The 25-year-old defended his title for the first time last month against the tough and awkward Romanian Razvan Conjanu – who replaced the injured Fury – by unanimous decision.
Fury is very confident of victory - predicting that he will end Parker's reign in four rounds.
"Four rounds I would say. Four rounds, knock out," Fury said to 1 News. "I've always said if it's home or away the outcome is always going to be the same. But it's nice to have a home show, every bit helps."
"I think Joseph Parker is a very good fighter and you can't take anything away from him, he's a world champion. It's going to be an exciting fight."
