Top Rank sports marketing chief Dena duBoef, sister of Top Rank President Todd duBoef, gave an update to BoxingScene.com about the ongoing search to locate John Arum, the 49-year-old son of Top Rank owner Bob Arum.
On Tuesday, Bob Arum left the Manny Pacquiao-Antonio Margarito media tour and took a plane to Seattle to assist with the search for his son. Arum received a call from his son's wife on Tuesday morning. She notified the veteran promoter that his son had gone missing after a weekend hike in the Cascade Mountains in Seattle, Washington. Todd duBoef told BoxingScene that his step-brother John was an accomplished hiker who often went hiking alone.
Dena duBoef indicated that a helipcoter seach was given the green light to proceed. Stormy weather prevented the rangers from conducting a helicopter search on Tuesday. The rangers were searching on Tuesday by foot.
"John was heading to [a mountain] Storm King Peak, in the north-western Cascades and his tent was found by the campsite ground and there was no sign of him at all. He left Friday at 11 o'clock, that's when he checked in with the base camp. Because of the rain, the helicopters were not allowed to do an air search. As of Sunday night he was supposed to come home. There was no sign of him," Dena duBoef told BoxingScene.
"Bob just called me in the middle of the press conference, and that's why my phone rang, and said that he met with seven to eight of the rangers. They figured out that [John] left about Saturday for the hike. Rangers are now able to do a helicopter search. Bob said they are going to be there for a couple of days. They [the rangers] are going to set up a camp."
