Eddie Hearn, promoter for IBF, IBO, WBA, WBO heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, has no other plan in the background if the ongoing negotiations for a Tyson Fury unification fall apart.
The handlers for both boxers are in deep discussions to finalize the terms for a two-fight series in 2021.
The first of the two bouts would likely land on a date in June.
Hearn is hoping to reach an agreement in the coming weeks.
Once the two fighters have agreed on all of the contractual points and sign off on the contract, then their respective teams will come together to finalize the location. Several countries are in the running to host the fight, but it's highly unlikely to take place in the UK.
"When you talk about Wilder-Joshua, we never even had a draft contract," Hearn said to the Boxing News podcast.
"The contract has been drafted. It’s been received, its going backwards and forwards with minor points. I don’t see any way this fight falls apart. Subject to the world falling on it’s arse. We have no plan B which is quite unusual. We are all like, ‘this is happening’. And [Joshua] is in exactly the same boat. Fury ain’t looking at any other fight, neither are Top Rank. and we aren’t either.’
"There are some minor points they have come back with which we will discuss internally. The next stage is to announce that both fighters have signed for the fight. I hope that would happen by the end of next week or something like that. And then we go out and deal with these nine or 10 requests to stage the fight. We’ll see what’s real, where we want to go and what the fighters want to do. Because what I don’t want to do is do that process without a deal in place."
