Promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport is amused with the recent comments from Amir Khan (31-4, 19KOs), who ruled out a potential fight with IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (36-0, 25KOs).
Khan fought last Saturday night at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and he was knocked out cold in the sixth round by WBC middleweight champion Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez.
Khan had moved up to a catch-weight of 155-pounds for the contest, but now plans to return to the welterweight limit of 147.
In a recent interview, Khan stated that he "didn't like" Kell Brook and because of that he saw no reason to give him a fight opportunity. He says Brook talked his way out of the fight.
Hearn has been trying to finalize a Khan-Brook encounter for the last few years without success. He states that Khan's recent comments will not discourage Brook from pursuing the fight.
"Kell Brook will always want to fight Amir Khan. The defeat for Amir Khan was horrific at the weekend. Kell was just saying that after a knockout like that, the last thing you want to be doing at the moment is stepping in the ring with me. I cant believe how quick his team is looking for the next fight," Hearn said to Sky Sports.
"Everyone in Britain wants to see [this fight]. I think Amir's latest excuse is that he doesn't like Kell Brook. Last time I checked, they were going in the ring to have a fight and not to have a bit of dinner."
"I can't understand the excuses and I think it bemuses the British public. This is a fight where he can fight for more money than he received in the Canelo Alvarez fight, so the excuse of 'I don't like him' - that should spur him on to fight Kell Brook. But coming in to face another puncher like Kell Brook is very, very dangerous."
