Kell Brook moved to the front of the queue for a shot at the WBA welterweight title with an impressive stoppage victory over Rafal Jackiewicz. The Sheffield fighter extended his perfect record to 25-0 as he forced the referee to step in and call a halt to proceedings towards the end of the sixth round at the Ponds Forge Arena.
Jackiewicz was seen as another stern test for the Englishman, particularly as he had never been stopped during a solid career that had seen him crowned European champion. However, the experienced Pole - a one-time challenger for the IBF belt - simply had no answer to the silky skills of Brook.
"I was just enjoying myself out there - I didn't really get out of second gear," Brook told Sky Sports. The first three rounds I would probably say I was in first gear. I was then going to step it up, slowly but surely.
"He was about to go. His face was a bit of a mess and I had taken him apart with the jab. I was just about to step it up and then the referee stopped it."
Promoter Eddie Hearn has held talks about a possible showdown with IBF champion Andre Berto.
"We are already looking at Andre Berto, we are talking to Lou DiBella (Berto's promoter). The next fight is a big fight - we are talking about taking him (Brook) out on December 17. I wanted him to get through fast tonight so we could put him on Carl Froch's show in Atlantic City."
Another possibility is a British showdown with Amir Khan - something Hearn things the public must see in 2012.
"People talk about Amir Khan - that is a natural fight in 2012. I don't want to get too carried away, because I might say something I will regret, but that is a fight this country has to see in 2012. We will push to make it happen. He can keep making excuses, but it doesn't matter. We will get him."
Asked over his future plans, the 25-year-old fighter replied: "Eddie just gets me the opponents and I knock them out. He puts them up, I knock them down."
