Former WBA Heavyweight champion David Haye may not be able to fight at the moment due to rehabbing his injured shoulder which forced him to withdrawal from a fight with Tyson Fury last year but he was ringside to witness the heavyweight clash between Bermane Stiverne and Chris Arreola this past Saturday night.

Haye assured he was not there to scout an opponent and was there to support BJ Flores who fought on the undercard of the main event. After Stiverne knocked Arreola out in the 6th round, BoxingScene immediately spoke with Haye to get his thoughts regarding a possible showdown between Stiverne and the mandatory challenger Deontay Wilder.

“I think Wilder has the big physical advantages. I think his jab is the key to the fight. You saw Stiverne getting out jabbed by Arreola. You saw him getting out maneuvered and out boxed. Arreola isn’t known to be a great boxer, he’s a bit of a brawler so [Stiverne] was getting out jabbed and out maneuvered by Arreola. Someone as tall and athletic as Deontay Wilder I believe would pretty much have an easy night” Haye would tell BoxingScene.

Haye is very familiar with Wilder as he’s used him for sparring in previous camps. Wilder boasts a record of 31-0 with 31 knockouts and while there are still questions about the legitimacy of Wilder, Haye confirms his power and skill is for real.

“[It’s] very real. No one has 31 knockouts in a row whose power is manufactured. Even if you did hand pick all his opponents, why aren’t there other guys with that same record? There’s a reason, he’s the goods and he can punch very, very hard. I’ve sparred with him and he’s hit me on the chin before and he can punch. He really can punch and he’s only hit me with 16oz gloves on so when they put 10oz gloves on and no head guard, he’s doing damage. So I actually fancy him to beat Stiverne if they ever do fight. But Wilder is definitely genuine and I wish him nothing but luck” stated Haye.

Haye’s career is still in limbo at the moment due to his recovering shoulder injury which may or may not heal properly in order for him to continue his boxing career. For the moment, he’s enjoying his time off and attending boxing events in the US as he was also at the Mayweather-Maidana fight last week in Las Vegas, NV.
