Current WBA welterweight champion Ricky Hatton is preparing for his re-entry within the junior welterweight division. Hatton will soon vacate his WBA welterweight title, and move down to 140 pounds for an IBF junior-welterweight clash with Juan Urango, scheduled for December 9 in Atlanta, Georgia.
Hatton promoter Dennis Hobson tells ITV, that while the Urango bout is not a 100% done deal, that is the direction they are set to take, and the fight should be officially announced as early as next week.
"We are finalising negotiations at the moment and it is not far away. Certainly moving back down to 140lbs for a fight with Urango is our preferred route. Ricky is still the main man at light-welterweight whether he has got a title or not. If he beats Urango and gets his title back there is any number of mouth-watering fights to be made," said Hobson
Mouth-watering fights are exactly what may happen. Hobson said that upon beating Urango, he would like to get Hatton bouts against Jose Luis Castillo (rumored for next April), Diego Corrales and UK rival Junior Witter (should he win the WBC 140-pound title).
