The prevailing feeling entering their showdown is that Devin Haney can only out-point Regis Prograis, whereas Prograis probably can only win their bout by knockout.

Haney suggested otherwise during their “Face Off” segment, a preview produced by DAZN to promote their 12-round, 140-pound title fight Saturday night at Chase Center in San Francisco. The former undisputed lightweight champion questioned Prograis’ chin because Haney feels Danielito Zorrilla should’ve been credited for dropping Prograis in the first round of a 12-round contest Prograis won by split decision June 17 at Smoothie King Center in New Orleans.

“You got dropped your last fight!,” Haney yelled at Prograis. “You got dropped your last fight! You got dropped your last fight! You got dropped your last fight against a bum, a [fighter] nobody never heard of. … So, you don’t got no chin! How about that?”

Zorrilla’s right hand hit Prograis’ right arm, which knocked Prograis off balance. They became entangled and fell to the canvas together with just over 20 seconds remaining in the first round of their fight for Prograis’ WBC super lightweight title.

Referee Ray Corona ruled that Zorrilla pushed Prograis down and therefore didn’t count it as a knockdown. Haney nevertheless believes that sequence showed vulnerability in Prograis (29-1, 24 KOs), whose chin has been one of his greatest strengths.

“You just got dropped by a [fighter] nobody ever heard of,” Haney said. “How many knockouts he have?”

Puerto Rico’s Zorrilla (17-2, 13 KOs) has knocked out 68 percent of his opponents, a higher ratio than Haney (30-0, 15 KOs).

“You saying you gonna knock me out?,” Prograis responded. “You got no power, bro. You got no power. You got 15 knockouts, bro, and who you knocked out?”

Haney laughed when Prograis questioned the level of opponents Haney has knocked out since he turned pro eight years ago.

“I’m gonna knock you out,” Haney said. “You gonna be the first somebody I ever knocked out.”

Prograis responded incredulously when Haney questioned his punch resistance.

“I ain’t got no chin?,” Prograis said.

The 34-year-old Prograis explained that he wasn’t hurt by Zorrilla in the first round, that he simply tripped.

“I fell over my feet,” Prograis said. “I tripped up. Come on, be real, bro. Be real. I tripped up, bro, be real. Look at my feet, bro. Be real, bro. I tripped over my feet. Come on, bro. You think that sh*t hurt, bro? Come on. Really?”

Prograis later drilled Zorrilla with a left hand that knocked him flat on his back with 2:04 to go in the third round. Zorrilla finished their fight on his feet and looked shocked when the decision was announced in Prograis’ hometown.

Judges Josef Mason (117-110) and Robert Tapper (118-110) scored Prograis a wide winner on their cards. Judge Craig Metcalfe credited Zorrilla for a narrow win, 114-113.

The 25-year-old Haney, of Henderson, Nevada, is listed as a 4-1 favorite by most sportsbooks to beat Prograis, of Katy, Texas. Haney has moved up from the 135-pound division to make his debut as a full-fledged junior welterweight.

The bout between Prograis and Haney will headline a four-fight DAZN Pay-Per-View show scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. ET (5 p.m. PT). DAZN subscribers will get a $15 discount ($59.99) off the full purchase price ($74.99) if they buy the event through DAZN’s website.
