Hartlepool’s Michael Hadfield gets his second pro outing at the Rainton Meadows Arena on October 19 as part of the undercard to the headline act of Paul Truscott versus Kirk Goodings for the English lightweight title.
Hadfield made his debut against tough journeyman Pavel Senkovs in July, running out a 40-36 winner at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light, and the 24-year-old is delighted that promoter Phil Jeffries is looking to match his fighters tougher in the future.
Part of a crop of young Hartlepool talent that includes the likes of Peter Cope and Callum Winton, Michael is hoping to remain unbeaten before one day emulating another of the town’s famous boxers, former world title challenger Michael Hunter.
“I was really pleased with my debut performance,” explained Hadfield, “and I’m looking forward to getting back in there now and gaining some more experience in the pro game.
“I think it’s good that Phil [Jeffries] is looking to make 50-50 fights. That’s the type of fights you want to be involved in, and it also good for the fans! For me, Michael [Hunter] achieved a lot in his career and if I could go on to do something like that it would be fantastic.”
“Michael’s a really good little pro,” said Jeffries. “He is going to be in some terrific fights in the future and he is definitely a fighter from the region that people should follow and keep an eye on. There is some real talent coming out of Hartlepool and if any of them can get as far as Michael Hunter did then they’ll have had great careers.”
Pro Box North East presents Sunderland’s Kirk Goodings and Middlesbrough’s Paul Truscott contesting the vacant English lightweight title at the Rainton Meadows Arena on October 19.
The undercard will feature some of the best unbeaten fighters from the region including Easington’s Paul Archer; Sunderland’s Jonson McClumpha; Hartlepool’s Mick Hadfield, Horden’s Anthony Hardy, and Newcastle’s Chris Bennett. Also appearing will be Edinburgh’s John McCallum and Doncaster’s David Allen.
