Former champion Robert Guerrero was recently welcomed to the latest edition of The Boxing Lab, BoxingScene.com's official audio show. On July 28th, the three division champion will move up to the welterweight division to face Selcuk Aydin for the WBC's interim title. He said that he plans on staying at the higher weight regardless of the outcome of the fight. Should Guerrero win, he wants to force a mandatory clash with the WBC's full champion, Floyd Mayweather Jr.
"I am going to stay at 147. The biggest fights are right there at 40 and 47 plus I will be the mandatory to Floyd [Mayweather Jr.], so hopefully he will be a man and honor his commitment," Guerrero stated.
The Gilroy, California native has been inactive since his April 2011 unanimous decision victory over Michael Katsidis. He was going to face Argentine slugger Marcos Maidana in a highly anticipated match up this past August but ultimately had to pull out of the fight with a shoulder injury. Guerrero wouldn't rule out a possible future clash with the former junior welterweight champion.
"I am open to all possibilities. A lot of guys pick and choose. I want to fight the best. When the time comes if Maidana is the best at 147 I will fight him.," Guerrero told The Boxing Lab.
