Since Anthony Mundine won a twelve round decision over Danny Green in 2006, the two fighters have traded verbal shots inside and outside of the ring. The first fight was regarded as the biggest and richest fight in Australian boxing history. This past Tuesday, Green's bout with Roy Jones Jr. may have broken the 2006 mark.
Green retired in 2008 and Mundine chased after him and chased after him - until Green returned to the ring. Instead of setting up the rematch, Mundine wasted time and tried to high hand Green. He said Green had nowhere to go. Green had the last laugh when he stopped Roy Jones in one round. The win has made Green the most popular fighter in the country by a decent margin.
Now Mundine has come back in the media and said he would fight Green for "the right money." Now Green has the advantage and gave Mundine the high hand. It's tough to see the fight happen. They fought at super middleweight in 2006. Mundine moved down to 160 and will now move down to 154 on January 11, while Green fights at cruiserweight.
"The guy's a pissant, I am not even going to comment, he is insignificant," Green told Vega radio in Melbourne. "When you beat a legend you become a legend ... He is busy taking on chumps and taking on babies while I am defeating the best in the world.
"To take out one of greatest fighters of all time in Australia. It is going to go down in Australian boxing history. It is onwards and upwards. I didn't get touched, I don't have a mark on me. That is a big thing for me."
By winning, Green destroyed Jones' planned March rematch with Bernard Hopkins. Green would be interested in facing Hopkins in America.
"United States, Bernard Hopkins – who knows. There are massive draws out there," Green said.
