Abel Sanchez, trainer for IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin, says Miguel Cotto is running from facing his fighter - and he will continue to run if victorious over Saul "Canelo" Alvarez on November 21 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

Golovkin faces IBF champion David Lemieux in a unification on October 17th at New York's Madison Square Garden.

If Golovkin wins, he will target the WBC title currently held by Cotto. Golovkin is the mandatory challenger to the Cotto-Canelo winner.

If Canelo wins, Sanchez believes the Mexican superstar will fight Golovkin.

"If Cotto wins against Canelo, I don’t think Cotto wants anything to do with Golovkin. I think he’s running from Golovkin but it doesn’t matter, we’re not after Cotto, we’re after the WBC belt," Sanchez told On The Ropes Boxing Radio.

"If Canelo wins, I would say it’s a strong possibility that Canelo fight us, for a lot of different reasons. I think Oscar wanting to make the best fights but more than anything else, I think that Canelo himself being a young gun and having that Mexican following, he’s not going to shy away from a tough fight. I think that he will take us on and then maybe a rematch once whoever wins. This is the kind of fight that you go two to three fights against each other."
