Golovkin Promoter Reacts To Canelo Enrolling in VADA Testing

A couple of hours ago, Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez announced on Twitter that he would be enrolling in year-round testing with VADA (Voluntary Anti-Doping Association).

This comes on the heels of his scheduled rematch with unified middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin being cancelled after he twice tested positive for clenbuterol back in late February.

"We have received VADA forms from Mr. Alvarez indicating he would like to undergo year-round testing with VADA. We are processing his paperwork," Dr. Margaret Goodman the head of VADA, confirmed via email to BoxingScene.com.

As a result of those test, the Neveda State Athletic Commission suspended Canelo for six months. He will come off suspension on August 17th.

Tom Loeffler, the head of GGG Promotions, had made it clear that moving forward that if that rematch were to take place in September - they would demand extended drug testing leading into that date.

"We're happy to hear that he's decided to join VADA again and it's one less hurdle for us to make the rematch," Loeffler said to BoxingScene on Tuesday afternoon.

As for his client - who blew out Vanes Martirosyan in two rounds on May 5th - being tested during this period of time, Loeffler stated - "We never had any issues continuing testing. In fact it was our choice both guys would've continued testing, neither one would've stopped testing. Gennady tested all the way through the fight and he would continue testing till the September fight. So it was never any issue on the 'Triple G' side.

"I've already reached out to VADA to enroll in that," Loeffler stated. "So that's already in the process to continue the testing for 'Triple G' that he was a part of for the May fight and he would continue through his next fight."
