The Chicago Times reported that heavyweight contender Andrew Golota was charged on Thursday with more than a dozen misdemeanor weapons charges for illegal possession of numerous firearms and having a revoked state firearm owner’s identification card. Police found the weapons in his home while investigating his alleged involvement in a recent sexual assault.
The police began investigating Golota when an incident occured on Wednesday involving a man approaching two women walking not far from the home of Golota and ordered them into his car at gunpoint. The man drove the two women to a house, which police later identified as Golota's.
The two women escaped, but not before one of them was sexually assaulted in one of the bedrooms. One of the women has reportedly identified Golota as the attacker.
Golota was released by police and has to appear in Cook County Circuit Court on July 19.
