WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (29-0, 26KOs) will have a real challenge on his hands, says two-time former champion Daniel Geale (30-2, 16KOs) of Australia. The HBO televised bout is taking place on July 26th at New York's Madison Square Garden. Geale knows he will enter the fight as a major underdog when he faces Golovkin, but the Australian fighter is relishing that role because it motivates him even more to win the contest.
"I know I have a tough fight ahead of me. I've been pitted against a great opponent and I need to get the job done whether it is at Madison Square Garden, Tasmania, Las Vegas or in Sydney, I just have to do the job. He has all the skills, he has a lot of experience, but the good thing for me is I know he'll go into this fight thinking I'll be one of his better challenges," Geale said to Fairfax Media.
"So, he regards me as a better challenge, he doesn't imagine I'll beat him. Over there they'll all think I'm the underdog and don't think I'll even get close. I'm enjoying that, being the underdog ... I'm thriving on it. Golovkin is very good at what he does, but in saying that there are a lot of question marks next to his name and I'm going to exploit all of them."
