Gavern Vows To "Put on a Show" Against Deontay Wilder

Heavyweight journeyman Jason Gavern (25-16-4) is no stranger to taking tough fights on late notice. Next Saturday night at the StubHub Center in Carson, California he will step in the ring with the most dangerous puncher at the weight, Deontay Wilder (31-0, 31KOs). The card will be headlined by Shawn Porter's defense of the IBF welterweight title against Kell Brook.

Wilder, who is waiting for his mandatory shot at WBC champion Bermane Stiverne, scheduled the fight to stay busy.  

“It’s six or seven days notice, but for me, it’s ‘hey, let’s fight,’ ” Gavern said to the Tuscaloosa News. “At the end of the day, (Wilder) will be world champion and it will be cool to say I fought that guy.”

“I know my job, I know my position. My job is to get him rounds and make it a good fight. My job is to put on a show for the fans. At the end of the day I’m going to put on a show for my fans. Whatever happens, happens.”
