Yuriorkis Gamboa believes that he suffered a serious injury during the second round of his clash with Gervonta Davis on Saturday night at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta.

Fighting past the ninth round for the first time, Davis (23-0, 22 KOs) closed the show when he dropped Gamboa for the third time in the twelfth and final round, forcing referee Jack Reiss to wave off the fight.

Gamboa was first dropped in the second round, and that's when he says the injury took place.

“I feel OK, but I think I ruptured my Achilles tendon before I fell in the second round,” said Gamboa.

“I’m a warrior and I kept going, but as soon as I felt it I knew it was ruptured.  I couldn’t put pressure on it.  I wanted to keep going.  I told my corner it was a problem but I wanted to keep going because I’m a warrior. I’m going to keep going. 135 is my weight. I want to stay there.”

For Davis, the 25-year-old gained a lot of experience by going beyond the ninth round for the first time in his career. Davis' most recent opponents had issues lasting beyond the first three rounds.
