Super middleweight Carl Froch admits that he wasn't in his best boxing form when he dropped a unanimous twelve round decision to Mikkel Kessler on Saturday night in Denmark. Froch thinks he had Kessler badly hurt in the fifth round, when the Danish fighter went down and the referee waved it off as a slip. He blames himself for not trying to finish Kessler off. The replays did not show any real punches land when Kessler went down. I'm not sure what Froch saw that made him believe Kessler was in trouble.
"For some reason I didn’t go for the finish the way I usually do," Froch told Daily Mail. "To that, I plead guilty. I wasn’t at my best — and Kessler was."
Froch is hoping to land Kessler again in the semi-finals of the Super Six Boxing Classic. In order to secure that spot, he needs to beat Arthur Abraham in the third stage of the tournament, already set for August 21. If a Kessler rematch happens, Froch promised to make things right.
"[Kessler] knows he will be in deep water against me if we meet again later in this competition," Froch said.
