Rising junior welterweight prospect Frankie Gavin (4-0, 4KOs) has come out in defense of WBA champion Amir Khan. He faces France's Samir Tergaoui on the Khan-Dmitriy Salita undercard on December 5 in Newcastle. Gavin doesn't like the verbal bashing of Khan by other British fighters like WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch.
The 24-year-old British prospect agrees with Khan's opinion that Froch is talking trash because he's jealous.
"It is bad and is more out of jealously than anything. Khan has done well and got a lot of money and is a lot younger than them. He has a long career ahead of him but other fighters like Froch are their in their prime now. So Amir Khan still has a lot more to offer than them," Gavin told The Mirror.
Gavin hopes to reach the same heights as Khan one day.
"Hopefully in two years I'll be where Amir is now - challenging for a world title. And by this time next year I want to be going for English, Commonwealth and British titles. The aim really is to win titles and be the best. It is good to have money but I would rather have less money and be world champion than more money and not be world champion," Gavin said. "People don't look at you when you walk past and say, 'He's loaded', they say, 'He's world champion'."
