The media and fan hype has done very little to change the position of Floyd Mayweather Jr. He appears to have no interest in a fight with WBA welterweight champion Shane Mosley. Mayweather is still holding a grudge over Mosley turning down his fight request in 1999. Mayweather told boxing scibe Tim Smith that a fight with Mosley was important back then, but he doesn't need Mosley now. Mosley confronted Mayweather in the ring after Floyd won a dominating decision over Juan Manuel Marquez on September 19.

“I got turned down by Shane my whole career," Mayweather said. “I know he’s going through some personal things in his life. But I don’t need him. I would have been a good fight at the time [in 1999]. On Sept. 19 you saw a different, better, more mature Floyd Mayweather. A younger Floyd Mayweather would have punched [Mosley] in the face."

Mayweather said that he doesn't need to chase opponents for his next fight because all of the possible opponents will be chasing him.

“All roads lead through Floyd Mayweather. I like to see everybody make money," Mayweather said. “I stay in my lane. My lane is to fight on Pay Per View and to make millions of dollars. Some guys lane is to be on HBO Championship Boxing.’’
