Felix Sturm (28-2-1, 12KOs) barely held on to the WBA middleweight title when he fought to a draw with Randy Griffin (24-1-3, 12KOs) at the Gerry Weber Stadion in Halle, Germany. Griffin is no stranger to draw verdicts, having fought to a draw with James Obede Toney in 2005 and an eight-round draw with Yusaf Mack in 2004.

The fight was close due to Griffin's busier nature and Sturm fighting out of character by choosing to slug rather than box in the early going. Sturm fought in spots when attacked and used his jab to offset Griffin's pressure. Several rounds could have been scored either way. They fought at a high pace which took a toll on Sturm who seemed to be tired down the stretch and began to box at a measured pace while keeping the fight in the middle of the ring.

Stanley Christodoulou saw it 115-114 for Sturm, Antonio Requena scored it 117-114 for Griffin and Nelson Vazquez had it a 114-114 draw.
