Former three division champion Erik Morales (51-6, 35KOs), at age 34, has a long term plan in store. After several years of retirement, he returned last year to win three fights. Morales has a big fight ahead of him, on April 9 against Marcos Maidana (29-2, 27KOs) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Morales spoke with Jose Pando from his camp in the mountains of the Otomi Ceremonial Center in Toluca, Mexico.
"When I lost to Zahir Raheem and the two with Pacquiao. We came to the fight against David Diaz in Chicago with a lot of questions in my head. But I think we did a great job, my technical quality beat Diaz, and I knocked him down, but I lacked the confidence. Today things are very different and we are more relaxed in every respect. Now I have a great team, they are very motivated and excited about what we are doing. The three fights that we did last year were very important to see what we could do, and after three victories, but today we are completely confiden," Morales said.
Morales has a dream to win a fourth world title in a fourth weight division. If he gets that fourth title, he wants to continue his career by defending the title.
"It is very important. It is something that we've planned, dreamed and desired to do. I think a career as beautiful, important and as long as mine did not deserve to go into oblivion with a lot of defeats. We have already planned on what we plan to do in the ring. This first year was great because I saw that physically I'm fine, so let's go forward," Morales said.
