Former champion Enzo Maccarinelli (28-2, 21KOs) has promised to reclaim his WBO cruiserweight title by knockout when he meets late replacement Francisco Alvarez (11-1, 9KOs) at the ExCel Arena in London on December 6. Maccarinelli steps in the ring for the first time since the March knockout loss to David Haye. Jonathon Banks was the scheduled opponent for Saturday night, but pulled out a few days ago with an ankle injury.
"I don't really care who's in the ring with me at the moment as I'm feeling strong and ready to go. It's been nearly nine months since Haye and I was ready to box again pretty soon after that fight. I've had to wait this long so there's a lot of fire inside me. I've trained hard and I'd be prepared to face anyone," Macca said.
Macca was crushed when Haye stopped him in two rounds. He wants to prove the critics wrong by returning in spectacular fashion.
"My pride was hurt against Haye and I'm just gutted it's taken me this long to get back into the ring. I've got a lot of people to prove wrong and there's always fire in me when my back's against the wall," Macca said.
